Adem Somyurek is an Australian politician currently serving as a member of the Victorian Legislative Council for the Northern Metropolitan Region. Born in İzmir, Turkey, he moved to Australia as a child and later held various ministerial portfolios, including Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, and Minister for Local Government, during his time with the Australian Labor Party. Following his resignation from the Labor Party in 2020 amid corruption allegations and an investigation into branch stacking, he returned to parliament as an independent after winning a seat in the 2022 election. He holds a Master of Arts in Policy and Politics and previously worked as a taxi driver and political staffer.
