An economist and sociologist by education, he was active in local politics as a city councilor in Kraków and held leadership roles within the Civic Platform party in the Lesser Poland region. His term as mayor ended following a local referendum in which voters supported his recall due to concerns over municipal policies, including public transport costs and urban planning.
