Amalia García Medina is a prominent Mexican politician currently serving as a Senator of the Republic. Born in Zacatecas, she began her political career in the Mexican Communist Party and later became a founding member of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD). She served as the first female governor of Zacatecas from 2004 to 2010 and held the position of Secretary of Labor and Employment Promotion for Mexico City. Throughout her career, she has been a vocal advocate for gender equality, human rights, and democratic transition in Mexico. Since 2021, she has been affiliated with the Citizens' Movement party.
