Armin Willingmann is a German politician and academic who currently serves as the Minister for Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment of Saxony-Anhalt and as the First Deputy Minister-President. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously held the position of Minister for Economy, Science and Digitalization from 2016 to 2021. Before entering state politics, Willingmann had a distinguished academic career, serving as a professor of economic law and as the rector of the Harz University of Applied Sciences. He has been recognized for his contributions to higher education policy and was twice named 'Science Minister of the Year' by the German University Association. He is the designated lead candidate for the SPD in the 2026 state elections.
