He serves as a Member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly representing the Gadarpur constituency in Udham Singh Nagar district. Previously, he served as a member of the Uttarakhand cabinet under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami as the minister for primary education and sports, and was also an MLA for the Bajpur Assembly constituency from 2002 until 2012.
