Awang Sariyan is a Malaysian politician, linguist, and academic currently serving as a Senator in the Dewan Negara. Born in Pontian, Johor, he has enjoyed a distinguished career in education and linguistics, having held positions such as Director-General of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, professor at several major universities, and holder of the Malaysian Government Chair of Malay Studies abroad.
