Chellie Pingree is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for Maine's 1st congressional district since 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served in the Maine Senate from 1992 to 2000, where she became the second woman to serve as majority leader. Before her congressional career, she led the advocacy group Common Cause. Pingree is known for her progressive stances on climate change, supporting the Green New Deal, and her advocacy for campaign finance reform and sustainable agriculture. She is the first Democratic woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Maine.
