Gerhard Karner

Gerhard Karner is an Austrian politician who has served as the Federal Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Austria since 2021. Before his appointment to the federal cabinet, he held various political roles in Lower Austria, including serving as the Second President of the Landtag of Lower Austria and as the mayor of Texingtal. A member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), his political career has focused on security policy, including combating extremism, terrorism, and illegal migration. He holds a degree in business administration from the Vienna University of Economics and Business and previously worked in the private sector and as a press spokesperson.
