Gitanas Nausėda is a Lithuanian politician, economist, and banker who has been serving as the President of Lithuania since 2019. Born in Klaipėda, he studied economics at Vilnius University and earned his PhD in 1993, later working at the Bank of Lithuania and as chief economist for SEB bankas. Entering politics as an independent candidate, he won the 2019 presidential election and was subsequently re-elected for a second term in 2024. As president, he has navigated foreign policy challenges including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and relations with Belarus, maintaining a moderate political profile.
