Kouta Hirado is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in 1987, he graduated from Kyushu University with a master's degree in mechanical engineering. Before entering politics, he worked as a design engineer at Hitachi, where he contributed to the development of particle beam therapy equipment, a field influenced by his personal experience with his mother's battle with cancer. After joining the Democratic Party for the People in 2023, he ran in the 2024 House of Representatives election before successfully winning a seat in the 2025 House of Councillors election through the proportional representation system with the support of the Japanese Electrical Electronic & Information Union.
