Born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, she studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Hamburg before working as a consultant for the Hamburg school authority. Appiah has been active in local politics since 2012, serving as a district assembly member for Hamburg-Mitte from 2019 to 2024. Since 2021, she has been a member of the SPD Hamburg state executive board. In the 2025 state election, she was elected to the Hamburg Parliament, where she focuses on anti-discrimination, equality, and religious affairs.
