Jenifer Rajkumar is an American politician and civil rights lawyer serving as a member of the New York State Assembly for the 38th district. A member of the Democratic Party, she made history as the first Indian-American woman elected to a New York State office. Throughout her tenure, she has championed legislation such as the SMOKEOUT Act to address illegal smoke shops and successfully advocated for Diwali to be recognized as a school holiday in New York City. Previously, she served as the Director of Immigration Affairs and Special Counsel for the New York Department of State and worked as an adjunct professor. Rajkumar is known for her active public presence and focus on community-oriented policy, including labor protections and victim advocacy.
