Before entering politics, he served in the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) as a military police officer and company commander, having earned a degree in business administration from the Bundeswehr University Munich. Beyond his legislative work, Nettekoven is active in sports administration, having served as president of the German Wrestling Federation and as a vice president of the German Olympic Sports Confederation. He currently chairs the board of the German Sport & Olympia Museum.
