Elected in 2020 and assuming office in 2021, he holds leadership roles including Vice Chairperson of the General Affairs Committee and serves on several other legislative bodies. Before his political career, he worked as an assistant public defender and in the insurance industry. He is part of a prominent Nebraska political family, following in the footsteps of his father, former U.S. Representative John J. Cavanaugh III, and his sister, state senator Machaela Cavanaugh.
