Kanako Yamada is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Kita Ward in Tokyo. Born in 1971, she began her career working for Mitsui Marine and Fire Insurance before establishing her own insurance agency. Yamada entered local politics in 2007, serving four terms as a member of the Kita Ward Assembly, including a tenure as its chair. She later served two terms as a member of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly. In 2023, she was elected as the first female Mayor of Kita Ward, defeating the long-serving incumbent.
