郡和子

Kazuko Koori is the Mayor of Sendai, currently serving her third term. Before entering politics, she had a successful career as an announcer and producer at Tohoku Broadcasting. She served four terms as a member of the House of Representatives, where she held positions including Parliamentary Secretary of the Cabinet Office and Parliamentary Secretary for Reconstruction, focusing on disaster recovery following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. As mayor, she has emphasized balanced municipal management and has been a proponent of policies such as the selective separate surname system for married couples. She was elected as an independent candidate with broad support across political lines.
