Kazuo Shiyake is a Japanese politician currently serving as the Mayor of Hachioji, Tokyo. Born in Nagoya, he began his career in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force before joining the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 1988. Over his long tenure as a public servant, he held various high-level positions, including Deputy Mayor of Chofu, Director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Infectious Disease Center, and Secretary-General of the Tokyo Personnel Commission. He was elected Mayor of Hachioji in January 2024 with the support of the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito, campaigning on a platform that included fiscal reforms such as reducing mayoral compensation.
