Koichiro Maruta is a Japanese politician and former official at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Born in Yokohama, he spent part of his childhood in the United Kingdom and the United States. He graduated from the University of Tokyo and later earned a degree from Columbia University. During his career at METI, he worked on energy, digital, and intellectual property policies, and served in the Prime Minister's Office. After an unsuccessful bid in the 2024 general election, he was elected to the House of Representatives in February 2026, representing Kanagawa's 13th district.
