Kweisi Mfume is an American politician currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 7th congressional district. He previously held this seat from 1987 to 1996 before serving as the president and CEO of the NAACP. After an unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 2006 and various roles in health policy and academia, he returned to Congress in 2020 following the death of Elijah Cummings. Throughout his career, Mfume has focused on civil rights, federal aid for urban areas, and progressive policy initiatives.
