Leyla Şahin Usta

Leyla Şahin Usta is a Turkish politician and physician currently serving as a Member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. She previously represented Konya in the 25th, 26th, and 27th parliamentary terms. Usta gained international attention for her legal challenge against the headscarf ban in Turkish universities, which reached the European Court of Human Rights in the case Leyla Şahin v. Turkey. Beyond her legislative work, she has held leadership roles within the Justice and Development Party, including serving as a Deputy Chairperson responsible for Human Rights. She is a medical doctor by profession, having completed her education at the University of Vienna.
