Liam McArthur is a Scottish politician who has served as the Member of the Scottish Parliament for Orkney since 2007. Born in Edinburgh and raised in Sanday, Orkney, he studied politics at the University of Edinburgh. Before his election to the Scottish Parliament, he worked as an aide to Jim Wallace and as a special adviser to the Deputy First Minister. In addition to his parliamentary duties, McArthur served as a Deputy Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament from 2021 to 2026. He is notably recognized for his legislative work regarding assisted dying, having introduced the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill in 2024.
