Álvaro Damião

Álvaro Damião is a Brazilian politician and former sports journalist who currently serves as the Mayor of Belo Horizonte. Born in the Concórdia neighborhood of Belo Horizonte, he built a prominent career in sports media, covering major international events including the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games. He entered politics in 2016 as a city councilman, later serving as vice-mayor before assuming the mayoral office in March 2025 following the death of Fuad Noman. Throughout his political career, he has focused on initiatives related to urban mobility and the promotion of local sporting and cultural events.
