Shoji Maitachi is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Councillors and as State Minister of Finance. A graduate of the University of Tokyo, he began his career in the Ministry of Home Affairs (now Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications) before entering national politics. First elected to the House of Councillors in 2013 representing the Tottori constituency, he has since held various roles, including Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Cabinet Office and for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Politically, he supports constitutional reform to clarify the role of the Self-Defense Forces and advocates for integrated economic and fiscal policies to revitalize regional economies and ensure food security. He is a member of the Liberal Democratic Party and has been re-elected multiple times, currently serving through the proportional representation system.
