Marian Harkin

Marian Harkin is an Irish independent politician currently serving as the Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science since February 2025. She has represented the Sligo–Leitrim constituency as a Teachta Dála (TD) since 2020, having previously held the seat from 2002 to 2007. Before her return to national politics, she served as a Member of the European Parliament for the North-West and Midlands–North-West constituencies from 2004 to 2019. A former mathematics teacher, Harkin has long been active in community development and regional advocacy in the west of Ireland.
