Sweeney holds a bachelor's degree in nutrition and food science from Montclair State University, a master's degree from Northeastern University, and a doctorate in clinical nutrition from the University of North Florida. She made history as the first Democrat to win her district seat since its establishment in 1974, focusing her legislative efforts on health, labor, and agricultural policy.
