Mohamed Ould Ghazouani

Mohamed Ould Ghazouani is a Mauritanian politician and former military officer who has served as the President of Mauritania since 2019. A career soldier, he previously held the positions of Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense. Since assuming the presidency, he has focused on national unity, social reforms such as universal health insurance, and maintaining regional stability in the Sahel. He was re-elected for a second term in 2024 and served as the Chairperson of the African Union from 2024 to 2025.
