Nirmala Sitharaman is an Indian economist and politician who has served as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs since 2019. A prominent member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, she previously served as the Minister of Defence, becoming the first full-time female minister to hold that portfolio. Throughout her tenure as Finance Minister, she has overseen significant economic growth and presented multiple union budgets, becoming the longest-serving finance minister in Indian history. Before entering national politics, she worked in various roles in the United Kingdom and served as a member of the National Commission for Women.
