Park Seung-won is a South Korean politician currently serving as the Mayor of Gwangmyeong. Born in 1965 in Yesan, he was a prominent student activist during his university years at Hanyang University, where he participated in movements for social reform and urban poverty rights. He began his political career as a member of the Gwangmyeong City Council and later served as a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, where he held leadership roles within the Democratic Party. First elected as Mayor of Gwangmyeong in 2018, he has focused on local autonomy, sustainable development, and climate crisis response policies. He is currently serving his third consecutive term as mayor.
