Phenyo Butale

Phenyo Butale is a Motswana politician, communication specialist, broadcaster, researcher, and academic currently serving as the Minister of International Relations of Botswana and as a Member of Parliament under the Umbrella for Democratic Change. Having first become a Member of Parliament in 2014, he previously worked in civil society and the media sector as the Country Director for the Media Institute of Southern Africa - Botswana Chapter and executive director of the Freedom of Expression Institute in Johannesburg. He holds a PhD from Stellenbosch University and was appointed to the cabinet under President Duma Boko in November 2024.
