A citizen of the Choctaw Nation and of Muscogee Freedmen descent, he previously worked for 18 years as a firefighter and paramedic with the Tulsa Fire Department. In January 2026, he was appointed as the Vice Chair of the Oklahoma Democratic Party. During his legislative tenure, Stewart has focused on tribal citizenship issues, notably introducing legislation regarding the rights of freedmen descendants within tribal nations.
