Rui Tavares is a Portuguese historian and politician currently serving as a Member of the Assembly of the Republic. A founder and leader of the green political party LIVRE, he has been a prominent figure in Portuguese politics since his election to the European Parliament in 2009. Throughout his career, Tavares has focused on fundamental rights, refugee issues, and constitutional transparency, notably authoring the 2013 Tavares Report on Hungary. He previously served as a member of the Lisbon City Council and remains an influential voice in European and national political discourse.
