西田昌司

Shoji Nishida is a Japanese politician and tax accountant currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Kyoto Prefecture constituency. A prominent conservative figure within the Liberal Democratic Party, he has held several key roles, including Chairman of the Committee on Financial Affairs. Nishida is known for his vocal stance on economic policy, frequently advocating for Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) and criticizing consumption tax increases. Throughout his career, he has been a consistent opponent of selective separate surnames for married couples and same-sex marriage. His political career began in the Kyoto Prefectural Assembly before his election to the national Diet in 2007. He has frequently attracted media attention for his aggressive questioning style in the Diet, often referred to as 'the cannon of the Diet,' and for his controversial remarks regarding historical interpretations of the Okinawa War and the 'Deep State' theory.
