Aída Avella

Aída Avella is a Colombian politician, pedagogue, and psychologist currently serving as a Senator of Colombia. Born in Sogamoso, she began her career as a union leader and helped form the Central Union of Workers. A prominent member of the Patriotic Union party, she served in the Constituent Assembly of Colombia in 1991 and as a Bogotá city councilor. After surviving an assassination attempt in 1996, she lived in exile for many years before returning to national politics and winning a seat in the Senate in 2018.
