Born in Haringey to a family of Jamaican and Zimbabwean heritage, he previously served as a councillor for the Haringey London Borough Council and held the position of Mayor of Haringey in 2020. Before his election to the House of Commons, he worked for Labour MP Ruth Jones. In Parliament, he is a member of the Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee and has notably voted against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill.
