A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served on the Pima County Board of Supervisors and the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board. Grijalva is the first Latina to represent Arizona in Congress. Her political career has focused on education, affordable housing, and climate resilience. She is a proponent of single-payer healthcare and has advocated for transparency in government, notably signing a discharge petition to force a vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act immediately upon taking office.
