Amália Barros was a Brazilian journalist, activist, and politician who served as a Member of the Chamber of Deputies representing Mato Grosso from 2023 until her death in 2024. A prominent advocate for the rights of monocular individuals, she was instrumental in the enactment of Federal Law 14.126/2021, which officially recognized monocular vision as a sensory disability in Brazil. Following the loss of her own vision in one eye, she founded the National Institute for Monocular Vision Individuals to provide support and ocular prostheses to those in need. Her political career was marked by a strong commitment to disability advocacy and social inclusion.
