Andrea Crisanti is an Italian politician, microbiologist, and science communicator serving as a member of the Senate of the Republic since 2022. Before entering politics, he held a distinguished academic career, serving as a professor of molecular parasitology at Imperial College London and later as a professor of microbiology at the University of Padua. He gained national prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic for his research on asymptomatic transmission and his advocacy for mass testing strategies. A member of the Democratic Party, he currently serves as secretary of the 7th Commission for Culture and Cultural Heritage and Public Education in the Senate.
