Anne Hidalgo is a Spanish-born French politician who served as the Mayor of Paris from 2014 to 2026, becoming the first woman to hold the office. A member of the Socialist Party, she previously served as the First Deputy Mayor of Paris under Bertrand Delanoë and as a regional councillor for Île-de-France. Her mayoral tenure was marked by significant urban transformation projects, including the expansion of cycling infrastructure, the pedestrianization of the Seine riverbanks, and the city's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She also oversaw the preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Before entering politics, she worked as a labour inspector and served in several ministerial cabinets within the government of Lionel Jospin.
