Alex Saito is a Japanese politician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives. Born in Madrid to a Spanish father and a Japanese mother, he moved to Japan at age five and was raised in Osaka. After graduating from Doshisha University and working in the securities industry, he studied at the Matsushita Institute of Government and Management. Saito began his political career as a secretary to Seiji Maehara. He was first elected to the Diet in 2021 representing the Democratic Party for the People, later joining the Nippon Ishin no Kai party. He has held leadership roles including Policy Research Council Chairman for his party. His policy positions include support for selective separate surnames for married couples and same-sex marriage, while advocating for a reduction in dependence on nuclear power.
