A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served in the Vermont Senate from 2015 to 2023, including a tenure as president pro tempore. Balint is the first woman and openly LGBTQ person to represent Vermont in Congress. Her political career is defined by progressive advocacy, including support for voting rights, environmental protection, and LGBTQ equality. She has also been a vocal advocate for ceasefire in the Gaza war and has criticized military aid policies regarding Israel.
