Rex Richardson is an American politician serving as the Mayor of Long Beach, California, since 2022. He made history as the city's first Black mayor. Before his election as mayor, he served on the Long Beach City Council representing the 9th District from 2014 to 2022, including a tenure as vice mayor. His policy focus includes affordable housing through the Long Beach Housing Promise, economic diversification via the Grow Long Beach Initiative, and public safety improvements in the downtown area. Richardson previously worked as a community organizer for the Service Employees International Union.
