Prior to his tenure in the Lok Sabha, he established a significant political career in Uttar Pradesh, serving five terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Iglas constituency. In 2024, he contested the Lok Sabha elections as a candidate for the Samajwadi Party.
