Bill Whitmire is an American politician serving as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives for the 1st District since 2003. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served on the Walhalla City Council and as the Mayor of Walhalla from 2000 to 2002. Whitmire is a retired educator and a former member of the United States Army Reserves. During his legislative tenure, he has chaired the College and University Trustee Screening Commission and has been a vocal supporter of fetal heartbeat-based abortion restrictions. He continues to represent Oconee and Pickens Counties in the state legislature.
