A member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), he has served multiple terms in the state parliament, first from 2005 to 2012 and again since 2017. During his career, he served as the Secretary General of the CDU in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2012 to 2017 and as the chairman of the CDU parliamentary group from 2017 to 2022. Before entering politics, he worked as a criminal investigator for the Federal Criminal Police Office.
