Burkhard Jung

Burkhard Jung is a German politician who has served as the Lord Mayor of Leipzig since 2006. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), he previously held positions as a city official responsible for youth, school, and social affairs. Beyond his municipal duties, Jung has been a prominent figure in local government advocacy, serving as the President of the Association of German Cities (Deutscher Städtetag) and as President of the European city network Eurocities. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher and school administrator, notably leading the Evangelical School Center in Leipzig during the 1990s.
