Franziska Giffey is a German politician currently serving as the Senator for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises and as a Mayor of Berlin. Previously, she served as the Governing Mayor of Berlin from 2021 to 2023 and as the Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth from 2018 to 2021. Before entering federal politics, she was the District Mayor of Berlin-Neukölln. Giffey is a member of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and has focused her political career on education policy, childcare reform, and urban development. She holds a degree in administrative management and a doctorate in political science, though the latter was revoked in 2021 following a plagiarism investigation.
