Caroline Menjivar is an American politician and United States Marine Corps veteran serving as a member of the California State Senate for the 20th district since 2022. Born and raised in the San Fernando Valley to Salvadoran immigrant parents, she served in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2016 and worked as an EMT before entering politics. She previously served as a field deputy for the Los Angeles City Council and as a representative for the Mayor of Los Angeles. As a legislator, she focuses on health, human services, and veterans affairs, and is recognized as the first LGBTQ legislator to represent the San Fernando Valley.
