Catalina Cruz is an American politician and attorney serving as a member of the New York State Assembly for the 39th district since 2019. Born in Medellín, Colombia, she immigrated to the United States as a child and became the first former undocumented immigrant who identifies as a DREAMer to be elected to the New York State legislature. Before her election, she held several public service roles, including serving as the Director of the Exploited Workers Task Force under Governor Andrew Cuomo and as counsel for the New York City Council. Her political career is defined by her advocacy for immigration rights, labor protections, and social equity for marginalized communities in Queens.
