Judy Chu is an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district. A member of the Democratic Party, she made history in 2009 as the first Chinese American woman elected to the United States Congress. Before her federal service, Chu held various local and state positions, including serving on the Garvey School Board, the Monterey Park City Council, in the California State Assembly, and on the California Board of Equalization. Throughout her career, she has been a prominent advocate for civil rights, healthcare access, and the interests of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. She holds a Ph.D. in psychology and previously worked as an educator in the Los Angeles Community College District.
