A native of Groton, Connecticut, he previously served on the Groton Town Council and worked for the Connecticut House Democratic Caucus. Gaiewski is an alumnus of Franklin and Marshall College, where he was a student-athlete, and he also served as an assistant track and field coach at Wesleyan University. He secured his seat in the state legislature following a special election in February 2025.
